Short Stories

The following of Robertson’s short stories have been transcribed and annotated:

  • The Derelict Neptune” (1897). First published in McClure’s Magazine, “The Derelict Neptune” tells the story of a mysterious ship that drifts into a bay on the eastern end of Cuba. The sciences of oceanography, meteorology, chemistry, and physics are all vital elements of this explosive tale.

The following of Roberston’s short stories have been transcribed:

  • “The Battle of the Monsters” (1899). First published in the Saturday Evening Post, this story features an epic and poignant battle between warring forces on an unusually small scale. Robertson’s interest in the newly emergent science of microbiology is evident here.
  • “From the Darkness and the Depths” (1913). First published in New Story Magazine, this tale imagines a deadly cryptozoological encounter in the aftermath of the extraordinary 1883 eruption of Krakatoa. Speculative technologies for seeing the unseen are a feature here.
